Tafelmusik II

Barossa, Baroque & Beyond 2017

Tafelmusik = Table Music. There is a vast repertoire of music from across the centuries written to be performed during significant dinners, by composers and performers who were often part of a retinue of servants of the house.

fermentAsian is delighted to present the Australian String Quartet in a program of works that will provide delicious aural counterpoint to a progression of dishes prepared by Tuoi Do and her team.

There will also be a moment of musical repose, when Grant Dickson and his father, Grant Dickson Snr will join the Quartet to perform an aria from Bach’s valedictory cantata ‘Ich Habe Genug’.

Grant’s father enjoyed a long and exciting career as an opera singer, performing as bass soloist for many years with some of Europe’s great houses including Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera and Staatskapelle Dresden. Only twice have father and son graced the same stage professionally, first in Melbourne in 1981, when Grant was a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, and then in the late 1990s in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House, when Grant was playing with the Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra. The composer on both these occasions was J.S. Bach – the B Minor Mass in Melbourne and the St Matthew Passion in Sydney.

It is serendipitous that Grant and his Dad will perform the aria ‘Schlummert ein, ihr matten Augen’ in Bach’s 1740 version, which uses an oboe da caccia (Cor Anglais) as the obligato instrument.

Tuoi’s degustation menu will be presented with a selection of wines crafted by some of fermentAsian’s favourite sons: John Hughes (Rieslingfreak); Brett Grocke (Eperosa); Dan Standish (Otherness) and Fraser McKinley (Sami Odi).

Tickets for this event are very limited, so please don’t delay!
